ambientlight: (ah?)
[personal profile] ambientlight
the fandom meme that made the rounds some time ago:

your task, dear reader, should you choose to accept it, is to guess from these brief summaries which ten fandoms i am referring to. for the purposes of this meme, 'fandom' is taken to mean 'series for which [livejournal.com profile] ambientlight has written fic, even if only a few lines thereof'. correct guesses win, er, a line of fic from that fandom! i don't know, man, my exams are almost over and i feel braindead and i need to get back into fic-writing mode before christmas arrives. help me out, eh?

1. Having a dream is nice, but having shiny powerz helps too. (naruto, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] erushi)
2. Random oneshot episodes, fluff fluff fluff angst -- whoa, sudden appearance of plot! The End. (maloki, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
3. Life's a bitch, and then other people die.
4. All you need is style, yo. (samurai champloo, [livejournal.com profile] erushi)
5. Death is no cure for woe and pain. (yami no matsuei, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
6. Psychopathic serial killers just want to be loved.
7. Mm, scenery. (mushishi, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
8. Why bother with historical accuracy when you can have crack and angst? (peacemaker kurogane, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
9. Never trust the overachieving sort.
10. Because giving teenagers great power is such a logical thing to do.

bonus summary, with two possible answers ( one of which is listed above ) --
0. Buildings fall, no one dies? (weiss kreuz and weiss kreuz glühen, [livejournal.com profile] ruebert)

I can't even *name* ten fandoms, let alone match them to the summary ;_;

2. MaLoki
5. Yami no Matsuei
6. Weiss (?)
7. Mushishi
8. Peacemaker Kurogane
10. Scrapped Princess

Samurai 7, Monster and Naruto should fit in somewhere, but.

0: Scrapped Princess? even Maloki sorta fits, if one squints.

2. yes! does my bitterness show?
5. yes again!
6. nope, sorry. anyway, only one of them is psychopathic, i think.
7. yep. eheh, i figured it was obvious.
8. yes~
10. nope! although i suppose lots of anime would fit this summary.

0: no to both, alas.

would you like to name characters/pairings for the ones you got right, or shall i just throw random lines of fic at you? ^_^

Date: 2006-11-21 11:37 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] feliciter.livejournal.com
but even so, i know very little of most of your online fandoms.

(some of the summaries are applicable to more than one fandom, IMHO, but that is probably because I am insufficiently familiar with said fandoms.)

any lines and characters are welcome! ^^

( i like to think of that as a testament to recurring tropes in anime. )

maloki
No Norse god truly considers themselves free from the workings of fate, but for a while the seemingly unscripted randomness of life on Midgard had lulled Loki into a sense of safety, if not precisely security; he still regrets his failure to anticipate how rapidly events would move towards a conclusion, once they were finally set into motion.

yami no matsuei
"But you see," Tsuzuki says, still smiling, "all I ever wanted was for things to end."

mushishi
Ginko never says anything along the lines of but don't you see, your sight is enough-- any measure of sight is enough-- the world is bright and vibrant as it is, and you don't have to be able to see the mushi to know the beauty that life is capable of; sometimes Adashino almost wishes that he would.

peacemaker kurogane
"In the future," Tetsu begins, and Susumu listens as Tetsu paints idealistic, unrealistic possibilities that (Susumu is certain) no one else in the Shinsengumi still believes in; he is not sure if he envies the boy, but at least he keeps listening.

(the teens-with-l33t-skillz one, for instance. but that is just me being bitter about the sweet bird of youth having flown and etc XD)

thank you for the lines! that was fast *_*

maloki - but we never got to see that conclusion! *rages at false advertising*

yami no matsuei - tsuzuki, in one sentence.

mushishi - and this is why you are a perfect writer for the series: your ability to show, rather than tell.

peacemaker kurogane - i think this might actually convert my OTP to Tetsu/Susumu.

( one must pander to the target audience, after all. *is young and foolish and impressionable!!* )

you're very welcome!

maloki: supplying me with enough bitterness to last a fandom-lifetime.

i am flattered by your remark re: mushishi, especially since i think it brings out the worst of my tendency to get lost in exposition! :x am also extremely flattered by the idea that tetsu/susumu might rival Ye Grande OTP of hijikata/souji, especially since the latter is the closest one comes to historical canon. :D;;

(i grow old; i grow old. i shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. /eliot)

it occurs to me that at least half of any given mushishi episode is exposition, but done in such a way that one is caught up in the descriptive beauty and only marvels, at the end, at how much can be said without actually *explaining*. Which is the effect of your mushishi-fic ^_^
(am i making sense? sorry if not, was on call last night.)

the idea that tetsu/susumu might rival Ye Grande OTP of hijikata/souji

my main reason for writing hijikata/souji is that it embodies (literally), for me, the tone ie crackangst of the whole anime XD

and by 'it' i mean 'mushishi as a fandom', not 'your remark'. ^_^;;

I thought 2 would be Tactics, but checking the other comments informs me I am wrong. =x Same author, same sort of story though, haha.

Bonus 0. Weiss. Totally Weiss. In fact, BOTH series of Weiss. Kapitel AND Glühen.

I have no idea what the other series might be. XD *doesn't know your fandoms well enough*

From: [identity profile] ambientlight.livejournal.com
ahaha, i didn't know that tactics worked like that too! oh kinoshita-sensei, why do you do this to your fans.

naturally, rue-kun, you are absolutely right. :D any characters/pairings you'd like, or can i inflict random weissfic on you? it's been ages.

( you've got more than a passing acquaintance with one or two of the other fandoms, but yeah... )

... I'm still in love with Kyou and Sena, but if they're too hard, anythign you feel like! =3

From: [identity profile] ambientlight.livejournal.com
it feels awkward writing kyou and sena for you, of all people*, but here goes. apologies for my abuse of punctuation and general bleh-ness.

Kyou knew it would be naïve to think that Sena was as optimistic as he appeared -- after all, they were assassins, and life was just one long mission, and simply being in Koua Academy would be enough to break the spirit of any teenager -- yet he wanted to believe that, all the same; surely, he thought, at least one of them must have had more to live for than revenge.

failing which, um-- have some random psychotic ken?

It wasn't just that Aya was the only one left who understood, or even that Ken needed someone to believe in (had always needed someone to believe in) -- Aya was there, that was all; a reminder of a past life to which Ken had grown too attached; a figure that carried with him, always, the promise of blood.

* this is a compliment! :o

=) These are both beautiful, especially the Kyou one. Thank you so much!

Also! Don't sell yourself short! You're a very gifted writer.

you are very welcome! <3

thankyou. :x but it is less the "general inadequacy common to most writers at some time or another" thing, and more the whole "writing fic about characters whom the recipient writes much better" thing, really. ~_^

Ummm.

10. Naruto?

^_^;

afraid not! perhaps i shouldn't have used the word 'power' for #10.

#10 reminds me of animorphs, but that can't be it, right? actually, doesn't that apply to many fandoms?

because i really have no ideas, i shall just hazard guesses. erm. #1, #3 and #4, might any of them be fullmetal alchemist or yakitate japan? (not #3 for yakitate japan, though) is there a naruto somewhere too?

alright, i fail.

Date: 2006-11-26 11:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] ambientlight.livejournal.com
#10 reminded me of animorphs just after i finished writing it, too, but that's not the answer, sorry. ( curiously enough, i don't think i ever wrote any animorphs fanfic, despite that being my first fandom. ) and yes, it applies to far too many fandoms! thus my rather limited definition of fandom above. ^_^;;

i've never written for yakitate!! or fma, so nope. there -is- a naruto somewhere, though.

you do not fail! no one needs to fail. :D

yay! random lines would be perfectly fine. ^_^

:D!

naruto
It is useless to speculate about what Kabuto could have been, had the circumstances been different, for in the end all it comes down to is this: that he knows what he wants, and (unlike Naruto, and Sakura, and perhaps even Sasuke) he knows how he may get it.

samurai champloo
In swordfighting it is hard to divorce efficacy from style; which is not to say that Jin condones pointless flourishes, of course not (because style without efficacy is never enough to prevent you from getting killed, anyway) -- just that yes, all right, he does admit that even the most brutal, unrefined techniques have a rough and beautiful poetry of their own.

From: [identity profile] erushi.livejournal.com
thou art too kind! too kind, i say. too kind! *happy tears*

the naruto one did make me go *_* a bit, i must admit. one can't help it if one's mind happened to drift into the gutter. ^^;; and yay for jin! one line of samurai champloo with both pretty writing and wry humour. -your- writing is like beautiful poetry on its own. :D

speaking of poetry, did you ever hear of the haiku on one of the lecture tables?

this is a haiku.
this is really a haiku.
god, this haiku sucks.

erm, yes. i'm feeling a bit determined to guess the others, but i'm really at a loss. can't say i'm having much success in trying to recall series with serial killers. ^^;;

(btw, you couldn't have written sailor moon fic, could you? i sincerely hope not. but #10...)

good luck for econs s tomorrow!

pwned by shifty-eyed faces! and html.

you are too kind yourself, erushi. ^_^

alas, the life of one who is surrounded by those with minds in the gutter! :p but no worries. you flatter me, yo.

eheh, yes, i read ms lye's blog too. >_> <_< who wrote the haiku, do you know?

eheh, yes, serial killers aren't that common in anime, surprisingly. i think you are capable of guessing the others, though! if not for my clumsy and unhelpful clues. ^_^v

( dalsdja;sda ahaha no, have never written sailor moon fic. never actually watched more than a few eps of the series, actually, back in the days of saturday morning cartoons... )

thankyou! good luck for bio s. :D and for lit s, eventually.

nope, i'm afraid not. we could try asking if we see them around?

i shall ponder more about the remaining few, then. *gnaws lip* if the cambridge markers see stuff like serial killers in my bio s essay tomorrow, know that it was all done for the good of this meme. ^_~
