So there they were, between lives, waiting for Persia to reach out in all his vast benevolence and give them a reason to kill again; and here they are, ready to fall back into old patterns, even if the goals have changed. Except Aya is Fujimiya-sensei now (and isn't that apt, Ken thinks, given how he acts like he's the only one who knows anything -- which may be true, but which is still damned annoying of him) and Persia has not been Omi for a long time. Youji's trapped in a cycle of his own making: déjà vu in what happens, jamais vu in his blindness to it, presque vu that never leads to an epiphany. These may be new lives of a sort, even if just short-lived and too-familiar ones -- but Ken knows that none of this is rebirth, just a postponement of the inevitable.
