in the absence of fandomspam, a meme.

the fandom meme that made the rounds some time ago:

your task, dear reader, should you choose to accept it, is to guess from these brief summaries which ten fandoms i am referring to. for the purposes of this meme, 'fandom' is taken to mean 'series for which [livejournal.com profile] ambientlight has written fic, even if only a few lines thereof'. correct guesses win, er, a line of fic from that fandom! i don't know, man, my exams are almost over and i feel braindead and i need to get back into fic-writing mode before christmas arrives. help me out, eh?

1. Having a dream is nice, but having shiny powerz helps too. (naruto, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] erushi)
2. Random oneshot episodes, fluff fluff fluff angst -- whoa, sudden appearance of plot! The End. (maloki, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
3. Life's a bitch, and then other people die.
4. All you need is style, yo. (samurai champloo, [livejournal.com profile] erushi)
5. Death is no cure for woe and pain. (yami no matsuei, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
6. Psychopathic serial killers just want to be loved.
7. Mm, scenery. (mushishi, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
8. Why bother with historical accuracy when you can have crack and angst? (peacemaker kurogane, [livejournal.com profile] feliciter)
9. Never trust the overachieving sort.
10. Because giving teenagers great power is such a logical thing to do.

bonus summary, with two possible answers ( one of which is listed above ) --
0. Buildings fall, no one dies? (weiss kreuz and weiss kreuz glühen, [livejournal.com profile] ruebert)

( i like to think of that as a testament to recurring tropes in anime. )

maloki
No Norse god truly considers themselves free from the workings of fate, but for a while the seemingly unscripted randomness of life on Midgard had lulled Loki into a sense of safety, if not precisely security; he still regrets his failure to anticipate how rapidly events would move towards a conclusion, once they were finally set into motion.

yami no matsuei
"But you see," Tsuzuki says, still smiling, "all I ever wanted was for things to end."

mushishi
Ginko never says anything along the lines of but don't you see, your sight is enough-- any measure of sight is enough-- the world is bright and vibrant as it is, and you don't have to be able to see the mushi to know the beauty that life is capable of; sometimes Adashino almost wishes that he would.

peacemaker kurogane
"In the future," Tetsu begins, and Susumu listens as Tetsu paints idealistic, unrealistic possibilities that (Susumu is certain) no one else in the Shinsengumi still believes in; he is not sure if he envies the boy, but at least he keeps listening.

(the teens-with-l33t-skillz one, for instance. but that is just me being bitter about the sweet bird of youth having flown and etc XD)

thank you for the lines! that was fast *_*

maloki - but we never got to see that conclusion! *rages at false advertising*

yami no matsuei - tsuzuki, in one sentence.

mushishi - and this is why you are a perfect writer for the series: your ability to show, rather than tell.

peacemaker kurogane - i think this might actually convert my OTP to Tetsu/Susumu.

( one must pander to the target audience, after all. *is young and foolish and impressionable!!* )

you're very welcome!

maloki: supplying me with enough bitterness to last a fandom-lifetime.

i am flattered by your remark re: mushishi, especially since i think it brings out the worst of my tendency to get lost in exposition! :x am also extremely flattered by the idea that tetsu/susumu might rival Ye Grande OTP of hijikata/souji, especially since the latter is the closest one comes to historical canon. :D;;

(i grow old; i grow old. i shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled. /eliot)

it occurs to me that at least half of any given mushishi episode is exposition, but done in such a way that one is caught up in the descriptive beauty and only marvels, at the end, at how much can be said without actually *explaining*. Which is the effect of your mushishi-fic ^_^
(am i making sense? sorry if not, was on call last night.)

the idea that tetsu/susumu might rival Ye Grande OTP of hijikata/souji

my main reason for writing hijikata/souji is that it embodies (literally), for me, the tone ie crackangst of the whole anime XD

since i think it brings out the worst of my tendency to get lost in exposition
and by 'it' i mean 'mushishi as a fandom', not 'your remark'. ^_^;;
